What is pulp fiction?

The quick answer: a form of storytelling characterized by rapid-fire action, accelerated plots and fantastic characters who found themselves in larger-than-life conflicts. This form of narrative was found primarily in the pages of cheap magazines (and in some instances, books) popular in the first half of the 20th century. The stories took place in back alleys, far flung galaxies and just about any place the authors’ imaginations could take you.

What impact does pulp fiction have on culture?

The real answer: Characters such as Tarzan, Zorro, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Doc Savage, The Shadow, Conan the Barbarian, Gladiator, John Carter of Mars, Solomon Kane and so many more debuted in pulp magazines and other mediums related to the pulp fiction movement.

These characters and their kind were the inspiration for modern pop culture icons such as Star Wars, Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, The X-Files, Stranger Things and so much more.
